Welcome to Carl’s Web Quests, how smart people waste time at work.
Carl’s Web Quests are a bit like scavenger hunts, a bit like crossword puzzles. You’ll need to have two windows or tabs open—one for Carl’s Web Quests and one for Wikipedia. Each Quest has ten clues. You must answer the first clue on your own. Then you have to look for the answers to the remaining clues in the web site pages you’ll be directed to.
A new Quest is published every Monday. Each is a joyride through history, literature, science and the arts. Each is a mix—none focuses exclusively on one area of knowledge or field of study. The answers are all there—I’m sure of it—but you’ll need to think. You’ll need to rummage around that vast store of knowledge that all those years of education, all those books and all those hours spent reading the National Geographic and Smithsonian, listening to NPR and watching PBS, the BBC, C-SPAN and the History Channel have left you with.
Achieve immortality! Be the first to complete a Quest and you will be enshrined in the Carl's Web Quest Hall of Fame. When you complete a Quest, you’ll see a secret word. Send an email with the secret word, number and date of the quest along with your name, where you live and/or work, and you will live forever! You’ll join the ranks of the immortals. The world will be humbled by your erudition. (And because you’re so smart, you know what that means.)
